Three strong and varied groups in a row all involving electronic processing and generation of sound. First up was the duo of Mark Trayle's tablet-controlled interface to computer-programmed/collected/controlled sound frameworks, with Jeremy Drake on acoustic guitar played with implements such as tuning forks, rocks, a bow and a hand-held fan, and processed through analog electronics. They provided an animated and textured beginning to the evening. Next up was G.E. Stinson's "Coded Source" -- the lead of various collaborative projects. He and vocalist-plus Kaoru created a soundscape ranging from etherial to rollicking, in the darkness behind video projections by Astra Price. Digital Cutup Lounge, a prominent participant in the IDM ("Intelligent Dance Music") remixing scene, followed with an blend of improvisation and mixing in a collage fashion. John von Seggern switched between live bass improv and remixing a variety of abstract and groove textures, while Andrew Pask played soprano and tenor saxes into a MAX/MSP setup with some custom programming to process and sometimes grab/loop his live playing. They were accompanied by live drums, including one segment with hand drumming. -- Dan Krimm [New Music TBD] - Home |
