Promotional Guidelines NOTE: THIS WEB SITE IS NOW DORMANT This web site is no longer updated. If you know of someone who would like to take over operation of this site, please have them contact us. May 6, 2006. [New Music TBD] is a group of fans of experimental music, and everything we do is primarily about helping us come together as a community. We believe that a strong audience community for New Music can be nothing but a boon to creators and presenters of New Music as a whole, but we do not focus on supporting individual creators or presenters as a mission. To an individual creator or presenter, it may not be obvious how best to relate to this group. Please read through this page for some suggestions about how to best join us in our efforts. Calendar Listings We no longer issue a weekly email calendar. We recommend that artists and presenters join our discussion list and post announcements there. We also suggest that you send performance information to several good calendars maintained by others, especially the acf/LA New Music Calendar and Jorge Martin's "Los Angeles Sound Calendar". How We Operate For a complete overview of what we are and what we do, please see the About page. We are currently operating mainly as a central information resource for New Music performed in Los Angeles -- our collective gatherings are purely informal at this time. (Note: This web site is no longer updated, as of 5/6/06.) Reviews on the Concert Blog We operate a moderated concert blog, see the Blog page. If you have a live gig in the Los Angeles area, get a friend to write a review of it. They'll need to register as a member and get approved by the moderator, then they can post comments. If you want to make comments about gigs you've been to yourself, please go ahead. The more the merrier. Get To Know The Community The main way we come together as an audience community is by getting to know each other as fans of New Music. The best way to connect with us is to do the same thing: let us get to know you personally, and get to know us personally.
Aim For Informal Concert-Going The way this audience-community helps the creator sub-community is by engaging a broader audience in the whole domain of New Music, and thus leading to more frequent informal concert-going by individual members of the group. Rather than getting the whole group to come officially to your performances, it's more likely you'll be able to get a few people here and there to come, who might not have come otherwise. It's an organic, slow-growth process of relating to your audience consistently over time and building that relationship with them. If you're going to talk to us, engage in topical conversation rather than personal event marketing. Concentrate on your own experiences as a member of the audience yourself, and share your insights into what you and others are doing. Then when your gig comes up, those of us who would really enjoy your stuff will be more familiar with what to expect and more compelled to see it, and those who wouldn't be interested will know to look for something else. The idea is not to indiscriminately attempt to maximize your audience, but to "right-size" it by finding the right people in the crowd for your music. [New Music TBD] - Home |
